Do I have to stick to your example itineraries?

Not at all, they are provided as a sensible starting point but can easily be adapted as required. We have carefully designed them to show the best of a particular destination, based on our extensive practical experience.

What standard of accommodation do you use?
This entirely depends on your preferences and budget. In our example itineraries all accommodation is chosen primarily for its character, location and quality of service, and rooms will normally have private bathrooms.

Are your trips escorted?
We only provide certified & specialized Abroad Trekker Guide's on all our group tours.

Are sightseeing tours private?
For independent travelers we use knowledgeable local guides chosen by our country partners. When we arrange local tours for you they will usually be on a private basis, so you will not be sharing with other people. In some areas it can be more practical or cost-effective to join regular trips organized by our local agents. We will specify which option you have in your quotation.

When are reservations confirmed?
When we have finalized plans for your trip you should send us a completed Booking Form with a deposit. When we have received this we will proceed with actual reservations. If there is no availability for the dates you have requested we will let you know, and try and make alternative arrangements. This is usually just a matter of changing the order of your itinerary or substituting hotels with those of a similar standard, although you should bear in mind that at certain times of year hotels and flights are often fully booked well in advance.

We will then send you a summary of the status of your bookings with a Confirmation Invoice, showing the date on which the balance of your payment is due (normally 8 weeks before departure). We will also send you general pre-departure information which includes any health or visa requirements. Around 2 weeks before departure, and after we have received full payment, we will send you a detailed itinerary with comprehensive instructions and useful background information.

Do I have to use your insurance?
No. However, it is essential to have sufficient coverage, particularly for cancellation (which is often not adequately covered by credit card policies) and medical expenses (including repatriation).

" Your vacation can take a year to save for, only a second to ruin."

Purchase Travel & Health insurance
through AIG Travel Guard.

Starting at $30.

How can I obtain further information?
For guide books we recommend any of those published by Footprint (such as the South American Handbook) for their comprehensive coverage, or Bradt for a more personal view. Or just call us - one of the team is almost certain to have been where you want to go!

How to know who to book the Inca trail with?
If your having trouble choosing a company this little pointer might help. There are over 100 Peruvian tour companies that operate in Cusco. All of these companies have been awarded licenses to operate the Inca Trail. Only Peruvian owned companies are allowed to operate with this license. Therefore, even if you buy your trek with a company in your own country it won't actually be operated by them. Even once you book, all Inca trails follow the same path to Macchu Picchu.

How much should we expect to pay for the Inca Trail?
You can expect to pay around $375US on average (transfers, entry fee's included) for the Inca trail however this can range to a lot higher!

What we can do to help the community:
If you are coming to Cusco there are a few simple things that you could do to help. Why not help by bringing any of your no longer useful second hand clothes, any toys, school equipment or books? We gather together as many things as we can and take them into the local schools in and around Cusco. All you need to do is hand your clothes, books, stationary etc. into our office and your helping us and the community! So easy! - thanks
Volunteer work

Climate:
The weather is always fresh in Cusco and especially in the mountains. The seasons changing throughout the year are not very evident, it is however possible to distinguish two well-defined seasons: the rainy season (November to March) and the dry season (April to October).

The average temperature in the city is about 11 - 19 degrees Celsius at day. At night the temperature gets even colder. If your in the mounting hiking, be sure to take some warm layers of clothes.

Inka trail climate - Varies along the length of the trail. During the first 2 days it can get quite warm with the sun out and a little dry. These first two nights however are very cold so you will need lots of layers. The third and fourth day are more humid with the third night being a little more temperate.
